The "Alfonzo" Artist Teddy Bear Awards 2017. The "Alfonzo" Artist Teddy Bear Awards are a celebration of Teddy Bears, Animals and Characters made by talented artists from all over the world. These prestigious awards are to recognise, honour and celebrate the very best of teddy bears, animals and characters, and to acknowledge the best of their manufactured equivalents. The Awards will be announced on Saturday evening June 10th at the Awards Garden Party. If you would like your entry to be on show before and during the announcements and at the Festival then it should arrive by June 1st. You may also bring entries with you if you would like to. Named after and in honour of one of the most famous and romantic teddy bears in the world, Alfonzo a truly unique red Steiff teddy bear, circa 1908, formerly the childhood toy of Russian Princess Xenia.
We are delighted to announce that the original Alfonzo himself will be on show in our special exhibition in our Woburn Teddy Bear Festival, courtesy of Gunhild Kirk Johansen of the new Teddy Bear Art Museum in Billund, Denmark”.
The culmination of this competition will be finding the Best Artist Bear, the Best Artist Animal and the best in a number of other categories, together with the Best Manufactured section. Finally there is the Lifetime Achievement Award in which bear artists will vote for the person who they think has added the most over a lifetime of work in the industry.
All artist entries must be your own work. They must embody the Category/Section description. Please state whether clothes are also home made or not. Any name/signature should be covered.
To Enter. You may book an entry slot initially to ensure a place. Your photographs and 50 word description must then be submitted by 31st March 2017. You may enter as many categories as you wish, and as many entries as you wish entry category. We do not accept entries other than by photograph. Each entry must have up to 4 photos from different angles including the back and a close up of the face. A description of up to 50 words must be included.

There are 6 sections: A. Best Artist Bear (Dressed-no props), B. Best Artist Bear or Animal (dressed or undressed-props allowed), C. Best Artist Miniature, D. Best Artist Wild Thing together with the Best Manufactured Bear or Animal and a Special Life Time Section.
Each one has 3 categories apart from the last one.
Section A. Best Artist Bear. (Dressed-no props) 1. A Bear who tells a story. 2. A Bear with a profession "All in a day's work" 3. A Bear in from the cold. Within this category there will be a separate section for novice artists with their first competition entry.
Section B. Best Artist Bear or Animal (Dressed or Undressed-props allowed)1. A Star is Born! 2. Animal Magic. 3. Double Act! Within this category there will be a separate section for novice artists with their first competition entry. Please state "Novice" clearly with your entry.
Section C. Best Artist Miniature. (4"or under) 1 A bear. 2 An animal. 3. A tableau
Section D. Best Artist Wild Things. 1. A Naturalistic Bear. 2. A Naturalistic Animal. 3 A Naturalistic Tableau.
Section E Manufactured Section. Best Manufactured Bear, Animal or Character. 1. A manufactured bear, animal or character of any sort.
Special Section. Lifetime Achievement awards. This section is to honour those artists who have the admiration and respect of other artists. Please nominate up to 3 artists who have dedicated their lives to their profession, and enter up to three names.
Note. All Artist Teddy Bear entries must have been made by you. They must be true to the Category/Section description. For a dressed bear please state whether clothes are hand made by you. We do not accept entries other than by photograph by email. Each entry must have up to 4 photos from different angles including the back and a close up of the face. A description of up to 50 words must be included. Judges for each category will have input into the criteria for making judgements on each Artist Teddy Bear section.
